9. Gemaal Middelburg

Aan de linkerkant staat een relatief klein gemaal met een grote impact. Dit gemaal zorgt voor de bemaling van de Middelburg- en Tempelpolder. Een kleine diepe polder midden in een veengebied. Deze polder is speciaal vanwege de aanvoer van ‘zout’ kwelwater uit de grondwaterlagen. Vanwege deze ‘kwel’-aanvoer spoelt Rijnland de rivier de Gouwe regelmatig door met ‘zoet’ rivierwater. Oorspronkelijk stond hier een molen die de polders drooghield. In 1991 is dit gebouw ervoor in de plaats gekomen.
